You Get Bullets

May 30, 2008

This has been an incredibly productive week for me, school-wise.  I can’t say why for sure; I’ve just gotten a lot done.  Due to that, however, my brain is too full of prelim-studying mania to formulate a respectable blog.  So instead you get bullets of marginally coherent thoughts that have been floating around my head lately.  Hope you don’t mind:

  • Sometimes apartment-living has its perks, like when a toilet breaks in a way that you could totally fix yourself but don’t have to because you live in an apartment.  Having a pool in this crazy heat is nice, too.
  • My dog is neurotic.  I love him, but he’s neurotic.  We got him a stuffed mallard this week and you should see the way he shakes and tries to tear into that thing; he would not be a good hunting dog.
  • I made these Lemon Cream Cheese Cupcakes yesterday and they are fabulous, and I’m not even a big fan of lemon-flavored treats.
  •  The Lost Season 4 finale was awesome.  Seriously, if you’re not watching that show, why not?  It’s fantastic.  You have until January to catch up, so get to it. And stick with it through Season 3; it gets better at the end.
  • I’m loving reading for prelims right now.  I’ve never in my life had tons of time to do nothing but read, and be required to do so at that.  It took me a while to get into a schedule of reading, but I’m loving it now.
  • Despite loving the reading, don’t let anyone fool you; PhD programs are really really not fun.  My motivation is about 30% to quit and 70% to just get it over with.  It really just depends on the day which side of the equation wins.
  • I think there’s something in the water.  A lot of people I know are pregnant right now and, on top of that, it seems that everywhere I go I see pregnant people (which is better than seeing dead people I guess!).  I hope God isn’t trying to prepare me for something…

And that’s all I can think of right now.  My friend Jenny and I are going to see the Sex and the City movie on Sunday; can’t wait!  Other than that there will just be more reading, perhaps some cycling, and playing with Potter of course.  Hope you all have fantastic plans this weekend!

Are there people in the dept. who are pregnant because, come on, you gotta tell me. ;)

Maybe in between reading you can find time to have coffee with me this week.

P.S. – I made your sandwiches and they were awesome!

    You Think You Know Me?

I am a wife, "mom" to my dog Potter, daughter, sister, (awesome) aunt, friend, grad student, English teacher, book-a-holic, want-to-be-chef, beginning knitter, traveler, and collector of hobbies. This blog is the place I keep up with friends and family who live too far away, let people in who might not know me so well, jot down my thoughts, and document my life so it doesn't pass by without my noticing. Take a look around. Leave a comment. Point and laugh. Enjoy.
