Breaking the Silence

May 21, 2008

I’ve been a pretty quiet blogger lately; mostly it’s because things are just chugging along.  Nothing too exciting has happened. My French class is going well and I’m not very worried about the exam. I’m reading for prelims (still), though at a much slower rate than I’d like.

Hillary Clinton won Kentucky’s primary last night and, political opinions aside, I’m incredibly disappointed in the apparent racism that is being attributed to her win in my home state. This CNN article says that two-thirds of the Kentuckians who voted for Clinton say they would rather vote Republican or not at all than vote for Obama. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am; I know very few people in Kentucky who would think this way. The best thing the CNN article can say about the Kentucky election is that more West Virginian Democrats would refuse to vote for Obama.  Great; we’re only the 2nd most racist state.

And I wrote about that for much longer than I intended to.  Because see? Nothing interesting is happening. What I intended to do was complete this meme that Claire tagged me for. Perhaps this will be slightly more interesting than discussions of French and disappointing election news:

If it makes you feel any better… we’re from WV and live in KY… so the TWO states we claim as home are also the most racist. Boo!

Kelly, I know; I thought of you and Nathan when I read about WV, which only added to my astonishment. Being that you two are the only West Virginians I know, I had never thought of WV like that!

You Think You Know Me?

I am a wife, "mom" to my dog Potter, daughter, sister, (awesome) aunt, friend, grad student, English teacher, book-a-holic, want-to-be-chef, beginning knitter, traveler, and collector of hobbies. This blog is the place I keep up with friends and family who live too far away, let people in who might not know me so well, jot down my thoughts, and document my life so it doesn't pass by without my noticing. Take a look around. Leave a comment. Point and laugh. Enjoy.
